VIDEOLAND CHINESE INTRODRCTION

First Broadcast: 1992
Program content: Mandarin and Cantonese films, and a small number of titles from Korea, Japan and Taiwan as well as commercial films and award-winning productions.

Competitive Advantage: Taiwan's first dedicated Chinese movie channel, backed by a substantial library of films and supported by a highly-loyal segment of the viewing audience.

Videoland Movie Channel was originally the Lianden Movie Channel, which became a part of the Videoland family of television channels in January 2001.

Videoland Movie Channel's collection of movies includes more than 1200 titles, and the channel shows an average of about 120 titles each month. The line-up of shows features the most outstanding films in Chinese cinema, with all-star casts, the newest production technology and top-notch directors.

Videoland was the first Chinese movie channel in Taiwan, and it was also the first to interview and film noted directors in Hong Kong and China. From the start Videoland Movie Channel's innovative approach, know-how and content have made it the movie channel that the competition tries to imitate, with a reputation that no other channel can match.

During the past few years Videoland Movie Channel has worked to exploit every opportunity and expand its film resources by branching out into digital photography and working with famous directors. Collaboration with Chu Yan-ping has so far yielded five films: "Wild Kid", "Super A+ students", ˇ§Lost Loveˇ¨, ˇ§My Grandpaˇ¦s Homeˇ¨ and ˇ§Bad Boysˇ¨.

In 2004 the channel began producing digital films, winning plaudits from media and audiences alike for ˇ§Bodyguard for a Corpseˇ¨ and ˇ§Dear Corpseˇ¨. This was followed by ˇ§Playful Ghostˇ¨ and ˇ§Ghost Mamaˇ¨ in 2005, two hits which were also well received by audiences. In 2006 Videoland Movie Channel will premiere even more in-house produced titles including Jacky Wu's "Puppy Love" and the campus movie " My Schoolboy's Day", Videoland will offer more than 24 titles a year in categories including comedy, kung-fu, childrenˇ¦s programming and puppet theater, serving as a stimulus for new developments and better viewing in the cable industry.

Videoland Movie Channel has laid out a new strategy in response to government guidelines encouraging support for Taiwanˇ¦s movie industry. The channel will show more Taiwanese titles in order to help stimulate local productions and make them available to larger viewing audiences.

ˇ§Let Taiwanese people watch their own movies, and the world will see the value of Taiwanˇ¨ is one of the Movie Channelˇ¦s greatest aims for future development.
